Welcome to the official Thief Multiplayer website.

Thief Multiplayer is an ongoing project aimed at restoring Thief 2's unused multiplayer code. Development began in November 2007, and progress is still being made. Nearly all of the game's original missions are now playable in multiplayer, and many fan-made missions are as well.

Build 215 on 07-20-2010

Believe it or not, a new version has been released. Changes since build 205:

• Fixed various bugs with the server browser and global server.
• Games can now be joined after the mission has ended and the host is on the objectives or summary screen.
• Fixed off-screen/missing text when viewing book overlays with multiple pages.
• Fixed misplaced next/previous page buttons on book overlays.
• Fixed instability after connecting to a passworded server through the browser.
• Pressing the escape key with the chat box open now closes it.
• Added /suicide chat command.
• Time limit display should remain synched between players.
• Fixed some crash on exit bugs.
• Removed all dependencies on DirectPlay 4.
• The automap and readables are now displayed as overlays in the game world. Viewing these will not pause the game for other players.
• Removed framerate limit settings. Made some changes to Thief’s timing that should prevent the game speed from varying excessively with changes in frame rate. The framerate is now limited to a maximum of 100 FPS.
• AIs should now speak the exact same lines for each player in the game.
• The starting mission dropdown in the host game dialog now shows currently installed fan missions.
• Sped up mission loading/synchronization a bit.
• The mission will now end correctly if an objective fails while the host is dead.
• Loot is now displayed normally in client inventories when loot sharing is enabled.
• Loot totals are displayed correctly at the end of the mission for clients.
• The time limit no longer counts down while the game is paused.

Site launch, and a new build on 02-01-2009

Coinciding with the launch of site, build 205 has also been released. This build addresses a large number of issues as well as adding a few new features.

Release highlights:
• Reworked AI speech broadcasts for clients. Clients can hear speech regardless of how far the host is from them, and idle sounds are now audible.

• Most projectiles can now be picked up. Rope/vine arrows that have been fired into wood or metal grates by a player still cannot be picked up, but any that were preexisting on the mission before it started can be.

• Pressing tab will now show the names and pings of all of the players in the game.

• The inventory problems related to shared starting equipment encountered in previous builds have been fixed.

• Added more descriptive death messages for players.
